Taking care of our mental health

Today we suffer from thinking about our lives instead of simply living them. We suffer from being under the sway of a hyperactive mind, obsessed with the endless fulfillment of its own desires. We have often lost sight of what constitutes the essence of life: to be happy and to be at peace.

In the ultra-individualized world in which we live, mental hygiene has become fundamental.

Taking care of our mental health should be as natural and essential as drinking, eating, sleeping, or washing. We take care of our bodies; it's time to take care of our minds.

A healthy mind?

It's a mind that only kicks into gear when necessary. Why think about your tax return when you're watching a sunset?

  • It's a mind capable of making clear decisions without torturing you for hours and without regretting them.

  • It is a mind that lives in the present (today) instead of constantly looking towards the past or the future.

When life is nothing but mentalized

As we develop individually, our minds take on a dominant, even stifling, role. Gradually, the spontaneity and simple feeling of being experienced during childhood fade, then disappear. Life shifts its paradigm. Where it once seemed infinite and simple, it reveals itself to be limited and complicated. The weight of responsibility begins to press upon our shoulders. At every moment, we must face choices that stir our nervous and emotional systems. Our thoughts become heavy and intrusive. Mental activity races ahead and overflows until it saturates every cell in our bodies. Our bodies tense up. Gray replaces color.

What happened that caused us to lose sight of what truly matters? Why does our mind, which never once focused on problems, now seem to revel in tormenting us? Where has peace and joy gone? Where has our senses gone?

Just a moment ago, we lived without a care in the world. Life was a game. And now, suddenly, every action is considered, weighed, and considered ten times over before we act. There's no longer any fluidity or lightness in our way of living. We've been cut off from the beauty of life and its natural sparkle.

A yoga based on inner postures

Freeing ourselves from the excessive control of the mind isn't about consigning it to oblivion in the hope that it will remain there quietly. Firstly, because suppressing thoughts is doomed to failure. Secondly, because the mind has its place in our human functioning.

Freeing oneself from the excessive control of the mind requires diligent and structured inner practice. It is a form of yoga grounded in everyday life. Every encounter, every event, every moment becomes an opportunity to unravel our mental patterns.

By freeing ourselves from the "all-encompassing mind," our spirit will rediscover peace, freedom, and unparalleled joy; a joy freely given and dependent solely on living life to the fullest. We will rediscover a blank slate where sensations and emotions can once again flourish fully without being constantly controlled by our thoughts.

Thus, our consciousness will no longer be constantly dominated by our mind. We will once again be able to be aware of things, of others, and of ourselves without passing through its distorting filter.
